Well while we sit down and stick the kettle on for a well deserved break, here’s a roundup of the most recent events and the upcoming ones.
Sonic the Hedgehogs 20th Anniversary
It’s less than 2 months away now and SEGA have kicked celebrations into full swing with a couple of teasers and trailers released so far, but on top of that other unofficial videos seem to be treakling out onto the web. From what we’ve seen so far not only is it a great idea for a Sonic game and the anniversary but it also addresses other areas in Sonic games such as ‘gimmicks’ and the old skool vs nu skool arguments. The Hedgehog engine is evidentally in use here and rightly so, its fit for the purpose and looks like it will kick out some great gameplay.
The story also has great potential but we’ll talk about this in more depth at another time. Don’t be surprised if Special/Limited Edition versions of Sonic Generations and other items appear this June/July and perhaps later in the year too but SEGA still claim there are plenty more things in the pipeline that we won’t expect to surprise us…
Summer of Sonic 2011
Things have really kicked off in preparations for the worlds International Sonic the Hedgehog convention this year. Not only has the venue been confirmed (Camden Centre, London), we’ve known the date since last Summer of Sonic (Saturday 25th June 2011) and on the 1st of May 2011 ticket registrations will open – so if you’re thinking of going it’d be advised to get a reservation, that said you should still be able to make entry on the day if you don’t.
In other news food and drink will be available; finally the powers that be have made it happen and you will be able to buy Chilli Dogs at Summer of Sonic!! But there’s not only going to be the usual art, fansite, merchandise and game pod areas and the like but…. a whole lot more is being put in place for your enjoyment on the day. There’s also going to be a jam packed stage schedule featuring artists from Sonics history as well as those in the community who’ll be showing their ugly mugs too. There’s still lots more to reveal but you best keep an eye on www.summerofsonic.com for all the latest news as well as info on how to get there, where to stay and what to expect. Having been there on staff all 3 years I can say it’s totally worth attending every year just for the experience of the community coming together.
Full Speed Ahead…
It’s been a good 6 months since SEGA Media opened its doors and since then much of that time has gone into developing things in the background to make things work smoothly for all you lot out there. Now though I believe we’re back into the full swing of things with the site running nice and smoothly and now we’re adding media to the site at quite a rapid rate. Not only in the Music and Videos sections but our own members are adding Podcasts too! Recently we also moved around some things on the homepage and think it looks a lot better – far more fun to use too! Let us know what you think guys, after all thats what the comments and contact us pages are for!
There’s a lot happening this year and we intend to celebrate Sonics 20th and Summer of Sonic in tandem, which is sorta the reason for this update. Expect loads more Music and Video to be added in the coming weeks along with the return of our Podcast – Mock the Geek. This is on its way we’re just finalising the timeslot for the show this time round. Anyway that’s enough babbling from me for one update expect plenty more rants, media and original content to find its way onto the site and hey, don’t be afraid to come say hello in our forums – we don’t bite… unless you have a chilli dog on you…
